Holyrood Youth Parliament CompetitionFalkirk East MSP Cathy Peattie is urging local schools and youth groups to participate in the Citizenship Foundation's fourth Holyrood Youth Parliament Competition. The competition helps pupils understand how devolved government works in Scotland, she said. It's open to young people aged between 12 and 18, through schools or youth groups. Teams must have at least 20 members, but there is no upper limit. Each team must use their school, youth group or local council chamber, to recreates the Scottish parliamentary chamber, making a twenty minute video, playing the roles of Executive, Opposition and 'backbench' MSPs debating on a mock Bill about a devolved issue. Teams can get help with preparation from local MSPs. I will be told who has entered, but if anyone wants to discuss the competition before or after deciding to enter please let me know. The videos are judged by MSPs and the winners receive their awards at an event in the Scottish Parliament. Scottish teams can enter the Holyrood competition and/or a parallel competition based on Westminster, now in its sixteenth year. |
