Local Hero - Scottish Parliament Opening
Every MSP was invited to bring a "local hero" with them to
the opening of parliament (http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/nmCentre/news/session3/index.htm)
Falkirk East MSP Cathy Peattie invited Bo'ness man Mike Munro to be
her guest
"Mike is a widely respected member of the community," said Cathy.
"He is a former BP worker and union representative, and is now an
elder of St Andrews Parish Church. He has been a trained Youth and Community
Worker for 30 years, working in Linlithgow and Bo'ness, and is currently
a volunteer helper working with teenagers, the Tuesday Dementia Club,
and driving the church minibus on Sundays. He started a Cycling Club and
participated in the Millennium Cycle Challenge round the four Cathedrals.
"His commitment has also involved him in international initiatives.
He has led a work party on two occasions to Peru and raised thousands
of pounds for the Vine Trust, and this summer, he will be part of a group
of 12 people visiting India on a fact finding mission to help raise awareness
of the plight of women and children in abusive situations.
"I was delighted that he was able to accompany me to the opening
of the Scottish Parliament."
